THE GAS TRANSFER

For the transfer of effluent gas and pyrolysates to the GCMS, the carrier gas is a labelled nitrogen 15N2. This is to avoid unwanted secondary reactions with the Titan atmosphere nitrogen. The carrier gas is stored in a specially developed reservoir (GT) where it is pressurized at 30 bars. The cylindrical gas reservoir has a volume of 55 cm3. Its diameter is 32 mm and its housing is made of stainless steel, 1 mm thick. The system is designed for a maximum pressure of 40 bars at 120°C, and a burst out pressure of 160 bars. The oven supply is done through the one shot valve P3. An identical type of one shot valve is used for P1 which isolates the ACP gas transfer system from the PTL and GCMS inlet tubing.
